Many mobile users are interested about the moment they are going to start seeing faster internet speeds. The fact is that people want those faster speeds so they are able to do more with their smartphones, tablets and other devices. But they will have to remain patient for now. There is still some work to be done before 5G is a real thing. We are already seeing the deployment of many networks, which are using upgraded versions of the hybrid coupler and other small tech. But deployment does not mean that it is ready to use. Some work is still needed.
But what is to come? The first step is having these networks ready to go. We are already seeing companies like Verizon testing out their network in some parts of the United States. But it is just testing, not consumer rollout. T-Mobile is promising that by the end of 2018 you are going to start to see 5G in around 30 cities. That is a major step, but it will only be in the biggest cities in the country. Everywhere else will have to wait until 2019, 2020 or even later. It will be a slow rollout, which is still the case.
And there is the matter of phones. You have to understand that no current smartphone works on 5G. None. and that means when 5G comes out and you have a plan that supports it, you will have to get a device that supports the network. Otherwise you are not going to get a great service out of it. That is what a lot of people should know about. So if you are thinking about 5G, you will have to wait for some time. First we will see the rollout. Then we will see new phones that support the 5G network and bands.
